Reminding the dean [decanus] and chapter of the church of Antioch that he had turned down their choice of Cardinal Pelagius of Albano to be patriarch and that the canonici Anselmus, Ulricus and Prandus had visited him, Pope Honorius III informs the dean and chapter that, employing his rights of provision, he has appointed magister Petrus de Capua, subdiaconus pape, doctor Parisiensis, the nephew of the late Cardinal Peter of St Marcellus, to the patriarchate of Antioch. He orders the chapter to be united and to care for the church of Antioch until the arrival of the new patriarch.

Pope Honorius III has heard that King John of Jerusalem has left Damietta and returned to Acre because of the threat to his dominions, but he has also heard that John intends to attack the kingdom of [Cilician] Armenia. Honorius forbids John to take this step, with the threat of excommunication. John should work for that Christian unity in the East, for which Cardinal Pelagius has argued strongly.

These churchmen have argued, in spite of the many deadlines given by the pope and Cardinal Pelagius of Albano, that they are merely temporary residents [hospites] and exiles in the city. Pope Honorius III orders the clergy of the Genoese, Venetian and Pisan communities, and other bishops and clergy to subject themselves to the bishop. He orders the archbishop of Nicosia and the bishop of Bethlehem, to whom he also writes, to enforce his mandate.
