text: Feb. 15. Beneventi. Pope Alexander III writes to P. prior sancti Sepulcri and the canons. He has received P. and G. their brothers. G. will be returning to explain orally what the pope will have written to others. In particular, he has forbidden Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem to exact more than a third of the money for lights or any of the oblations to the relic of the True Cross when it is back in the church after an expedition, or to forbid the canons to lay the bodies of the dead before their altar or to carry crosses on Good Friday. The pope has also ordered the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem not to refuse to pay tithes belonging to the Holy Sepulchre on lands in the diocese of Jerusalem they do not cultivate themselves or cultivate at their expense. They should also pay tithes on lands they do cultivate according to the terms agreed with the Holy Sepulchre.

text: Aug. 5. [114] Benevento. Pope Alexander III writes to P. prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, who have complained that Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem and King Amalric are intending to withdraw the church of Jaffa from subjection to the Holy Sepulchre and to raise it to the status of a bishopric.
