text: Jan. 10. Lateran. Writing to Petrus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, Pope Celestine II notes that King Fulk of Jerusalem and Queen Melisende wished to establish a monastery for professed men or women in the church of Sanctus Lazarus at Bethania and were supported in their appeal to the Holy See by Patriarch William of Jerusalem and his hierarchy. Pope Celestine assents to this and confirms the gift to the Holy Sepulchre of the casale of Thecua by King Fulk in exchange for casalia surrendered by the canons to provide a living for the community at St Lazarus.

Writing to Petrus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, Pope Lucius II takes them under apostolic protection and confirms the rights and properties granted by Duke Godfrey, King Baldwin [I] and Patriarch Arnulf [of Chocques]: half of all oblations offered to the Holy Sepulchre; oblations to the relic of the True Cross, except on Good Friday or when the patriarch has some need of them; the tithes of the city of Jerusalem and the lands around, except for the tithes of the funda and of half of the benefice handed by the king in exchange for the bishopric of Bethlehem; the church of St Peter in Jaffa.
