text: Jun. 18. Tyre. In the house of the archbishop of Tyre. Patriarch Albert of Antioch, the papal legate, records under his seal and under those of the magistri of the Orders, his arbitration in a number of disputes between frater Hermannus domus Templi magister and frater Garinus domus Hospitalis sancti Johannis magister, with the agreement of their brothers and under threat of a penalty of 1000 marchae argenti. The patriarch records how agreement was reached in the presence of the magistri, making use of a commission consisting of 3 Knights Templar and 3 brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. (1). The Knights Templar should also enter into the truce which the Hospital of St John has with the sultan of Aleppo in relation to Gabulum. The Knights Templar will receive half of the [revenues] gained as long as the truce lasts, although this will not apply to the lands the Hospital already hold on either side of the River of Belna. These will be respected by the Templars. (2). When the truce ends the Knights Templar should hold Gabulum and its land, paying the Hospital of St John 1100 Saracen besants annually in 2 instalments, at Christmas and on the Feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist. (3). In order to defend Gabulum, the Knights Templar and their men will be free to come and go through the gate the Hospital has in the wall that stretches towards the sea near the port of Margatum, by sea, by the road, which runs between the cistern [barquile] and the ravine [ravina] that extends to the sea, and by all the roads nearby. (4). In relation to a truce made with Saona, neither the brothers of the Hospital nor the Knights Templar are held to assist one another if one of the Orders is at war with Saona. (5). The Hospitallers of St John are held to to assist the Knights Templar with costs when they are at war at Gabulum, as is contained in agreements made between frater Gaufridus de Donzon and frater Philippus de Pleseiç, the late magistri of the Hospital of St John and the Knights Templar. (6). Each Order will observe truces made by the other Order with the Saraceni with respect to Gabulum. (7). Should Gabulum come into Christian hands, this agreement will end and the city and its territories will be divided between the Knights Templar and the Hospital of St John in the proportions held by each before it was lost, in the same terms as was laid down in an arbitration undertaken by the late Cardinal Pelagius of Albano with respect to Maraclea. text: Oct. 3. Acre. In the palacium of dominus Odo conestabulus et bajulus. The record of an agreement reached in the presence of dominus Odo de Montebeliardo, conestabulus regni Hierosolimitani et bajulus ejusdem regni pro domino imperatore between on one side the Knights Templar and the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and on the other the citizens of Marseille. The lords and viscounts of Marseille - Roncelinus, Hugo, Raimundus de Baucio and Geraldus Ademarii de Montilio and their wives - and Raimundus Gaufridus de Tritis, had granted the Orders the rights to have ships [naves et ligna] in the port of Marseille and to sail to wherever they wish carrying pilgrims and merchants, but the magistri of the Orders complained of extortions and wanted the ships and goods of Marseille [in Acre] to be confiscated until they were repaid an estimated 2000 marchae argenti. Johannes de S. Hylario consul Massiliensium in Accon argued that he had no power to reply to the charges and he appealed for justice from the conestabulus and his court. The magistri of the Orders and the representatives of Marseille, dominus Rostagnus de Podio Alto and dominus Guittelminus de Caranzon, come to an agreement through the mediation of the dominus conestabulus, dominus Johannes de Ybelino dominus Beriti and other prudhommes [proceres]. Rostagnus and Guittelminus, having plenary authority granted in Marseille, allow the Orders the right have 1 ship [navis] each, making use of the port of Marseille twice a year, in the August passage and the Easter or March passage. Each of the two ships can carry up to 1500 pilgrims or merchants. The Orders can make use of additional ships for their own needs, but these cannot carry pilgrims or merchants. The magistri promise not to embark pilgrims or merchants in the ports from Collioure to Monaco. Frater Hermannus de Peragors magister domus militie Templi, frater Gerinus magister domus Hospitalis sancti Johannis, Rostagnus and Guittelminus attach their seals, as does Odo de Montebiliardo. Witnesses: Odo de Montebiliardo conestabulus regni Iherosolimitani et bajulus regni pro domino imperatore; dominus Johannes de Ybelino dominus Beryti; dominus Johannes dominus Cesarie; dominus Gauterius de Flori miles; dominus Anricus de Nazareno miles; dominus Manabeus miles; of the Knights Templar, frater Balduinus de Beuraje; frater Renaldus Alamannus; frater Jacobus del Bois commendator domus Templi Acconensis; frater Geraldus de Jussac; frater Guilelmus Arnaldi; of the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, frater Arnaldus de Montbrun marescalcus Hospitalis sancti Johannis; frater Guillelmus de Monte Acuto draperius; frater Rogerius Hispanus; frater Guillelmus de Castronovo; frater Nivelo; frater Rainerius Alamannus. The charter was written, at the request of both sides, by Petrus de Servaria publicus notarius.

Frater A. magister domus milicie Templi, together with his brothers, comes to an agreement with frater G. magister domus Hospitalis sancti Johannis Jerosolimitani and his brothers over the waters and mills of the flumen Acconensis, which flows down from the fons Recordane. The Knights Templar can retain the water above their mill, so that the water level can rise to a mark on the mill of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. If it rises above that mark, they must take action, but cannot be held to blame when there is rain or a flood. The Hospitallers of St John promise not to dam the river to the injury of the Templars. Both Orders have the right to sail, load and unload boats [barchae], bound for Acre, as far as the barrage at the Templar mill. The Hospitallers can have boats both above and below the barrage, but will be liable for any damage done to it by them. Neither Order should do anything to impede the passage of boats. The Knights Templar can raise the river banks to the height of the mark on the Hospitaller mill. Both Orders have had this record written and sealed, and have asked H. Nazarenus archiepiscopus, R. Acconensis episcopus and O. comestabalus regni Jerosolimitani to confirm it with their seals.

Frater Hermannus Petragoricensis pauperis militia Templi minister humilis writes to Brother Robert de Sanford, Templar praeceptor in England. He describes how the sultan of Egypt and Nasserus offered them all the land to the west of the River Jordan. But the sultan of Egypt retained the Christian emissaries, including Knights Templar, for more than 6 months, went back on his words and held on to Gaza, Hebron, Nablus and Darannum. The Christians then turned to the sultan of Damascus and made a truce with him and with Nasserus the lord of Kerak. The sultan of Damascus and lord of Kerak would return all the land west of the River Jordan, except for Hebron, Nablus and Bossanum and agreed to the expulsion of all Sarraceni from Jerusalem, so that after 56 years the Christian liturgy could be celebrated throughout the city. This agreement was controversial, so that on the Knights Templar, the prelates and a few barons rest the defence of the Holy Land. The Knights Templar guard the entry to the land at Gaza, with the assistance of the sultan of Damascus and Nasserus lord of Kerak. They also propose to build a powerful castle near Jerusalem above Toronum.
