When she died her son Andreas held on to it for a long time against the canons’ will. text: Feb. 5. Robertus de casali S. Egidii and his wife Odula remit 100 of the 500 besants owed them annually by the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. The remaining 400 will be paid 4 times a year, 100 each on the Feasts of Easter, the Nativity of St John the Baptist, All Saints and Christmas. If payment is not made within 40 days Robert and his heirs can reoccupy the land until the rent is paid. In return for the remission, Raimundus magister and the Hospital have, at the request of Robertus and Odula, purchased the casale of Teira, which is next to Calanson, from Pisellus de casale S. Egidii, his wife Arsen, his sons Dudo/Dudonis and Johannes, and Agnes, the wife of Dudo, for 1,000 besants, with the agreement of Gualterius Maledoctus and his wife Milisendis. Gualterius Maledoctus promises that he will demand no service for the casale from the Hospital, in return for which he receives 400 besants from Robertus de casale S. Egidii. Dudo, the son of Pisellus is made a vassal [homo] of Gualterius, paying each year 250 besants in return for the Hospital’s assurance that it will demand no service from the casale. Rainald [of Châtillon], Dei gratia Antiochenorum princeps, together with Constantia eorumdem principissa, gives the church of St Mary and the archbishop of the city of Pisa, together with all the people from the province of Pisa living in Antioch, represented by their legate Butato, land on which to build a house in the port of Latakia. This land extends below the church of S. Helias, [running] before the houses of the Temple and of magister Ugo to the sea, and along the beach as far as a tannery [teneria] and the old wall and as far as the ditch. If by the judgement of a court the Pisans can recover land in the port that Willelmus Embriacus has occupied, the land described above will be restored to the prince. Rainald also gives the Pisans a house in Antioch, which had belonged to dominus Odo de Tyro. He remits half of all duties levied on Pisan imports and exports, sales and purchases. He assures the Pisans of his protection. The Pisans’ goods will be safeguarded in shipwrecks and the possessions of those who die in the principality will be returned to their relations intact. The Pisans may settle disputes among themselves in their own court, but if any dispute arises with one of the prince’s subjects the case will be dealt with in his court.
