text: Aug. 27. Lateran. Pope Innocent III authorizes the magister and brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans in Acre to continue to wear white mantles [alba pallia] for the time being. They had been doing so on the assumption that this was intended when it was established at their foundation that they were to follow Templar military practices. The Templars have complained. Innocent has written to the patriarch of Jerusalem on the matter.

Writing to the magister of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, Pope Gregory IX complains that the emperor Frederick’s representatives have refused to accept the plan to bring peace between the emperor and the people of Acre, because, contrary to the pope’s expectations, they did not have Frederick’s authority, which was not given before his campaign in northern Italy.
