text: Dec. 25 1239 - Dec. 24 1240. Acre. In the house of the Hospital of St John. Frater Petrus de Veteri Privata sancte domus Hospitalis Jerusalem magister et pauperum Christi custos, together with his convent, records under seal an agreement made with frater Gerardus de Malberch marescalcus domus Theutonicorum, locum magistri tenens, together with his convent. The Hospital of St Mary of the Germans is held to pay the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem one quarter of the revenue of the casale called Arabia. St Mary will appoint a bajulus, enjoined by the magister Theutonicorum or his lieutenant in the presence of the preceptor of the Hospital of St John to make the payment, taking only moderate expenses for himself, until St John has been repaid the 5000 besants for which the casale has been pledged by St Mary. If the casale should be occupied by the Sarraceni, the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary are absolved from their annual payment.
