Bohemond, the son of Prince Bohemond of Antioch, Dei gratia Tripolis comes, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to frater Gaufridus de Donjum sancte domus Hospitalis Hierusalem magister and the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. He gives them the road [via] which Count Raymond of Tripoli had retained for his own use when he gave land in Tripoli. Bohemond adds the gift of a gate in the wall of Tripoli, from which he will exact no dues [consuetudo vel jus]. The road and gate are bordered on the right hand side by the aqueduct of Tripoli and on the left by the sea. text: Jan. 22. [257] Bohemond, the son of Prince Bohemond of Antioch, Dei gratia Tripolis comes, records an agreement with Matheus Minchet vicecomes Pisanorum Tripoli, and Gandulfus, Bandinus and Ugo, emissaries [nuncii] of the consules of the Pisans in Acre. Petrus Tripolis episcopus had challenged the rights of free entry and departure with merchandise from Tripoli and the exemption of a third part of terciaria. The Pisans had claimed that the count had no rights in the funda of the Pisans in Tripoli or over the entry or departure from Tripoli with merchandise. Bohemond confirms that the Pisans already had these rights and receives in exchange a gift of 500 Saracen besants. With the agreement of his wife domina Plazencia Tripolis comitissa and his homines, Bohemond, the son of Prince Bohemond [III] of Antioch, Dei gratia Tripolis comes makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in repayment for the 37000 besants owed by his predecessor Count Raymond of Tripoli. He gives the Hospital of St John, frater Gaufridus de Donjon Hospitalis magister and the brothers an annual rent of 1000 besants, freed from all servicium, to be taken from his assisia of 4000 besants, drawn from the cathena Aconis, which he holds of the king of Jerusalem. The rent will be paid in 4 instalments: at Christmas, Easter, the Nativity of St John of the Baptist and Michaelmas. text: Sept. 6. Bohemond, the son of Prince Bohemond of Antioch, Dei gratia Tripolis comes, records under seal that out of fear for the lord of the Assassins [dominus Assessinorum] he has come to an agreement with frater Gaufridus de Donjon magister sancte domus Hospitalis Iherusalem and the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem over the lordship of Maraclea and Camelum, which he gave them and they have possessed for some time. At Bohemond’s request the Hospitallers allow him to hold the lordship for life on condition that if the Hospitallers have the agreement of the legitimate heirs to the lordship, it will revert to them. The lordship will be restored to them on Bohemond’s death. If the lordship reverts to the Hospitallers, they will pay Bohemond within a month 6000 Saracen besants for Camelum and will absolve Bohemond from his debt to them of 300 besants. This written agreement will then be returned to them.
