Balduinus and his heirs will hold of the monks of St Mary the casale called Cafarcos, which Queen Melisende gave St Mary in alms, together with the land which descends as far as the water from Cavea. He will pay St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat 80 besants a year, due within 15 days of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. If he or his heirs break this agreement, the casale, together with any buildings and improvements, will revert to St Mary. Amalricus Sidoniensis episcopus describes how on a visit to Jerusalem he went to the tomb of the Blessed Virgin Mary and then to the cloister of the abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat to see the abbot and brothers. Petrus abbas admitted him and his canons into an association of prayer, so that he should be remembered during his life, his anniversary of his death inscribed in the abbey’s obit book and his Requiem said both at Sidon and in St Mary. In return Amalricus remits under seal half the tithes owed by St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat in his diocese.
