Patriarch Gerold of Jerusalem, the papal legate, records under seal an agreement reached in his presence between the magister and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Bohemond, princeps Antiochenus et comes Tripolitanus. The Hospital of St John surrenders all gifts and freedoms granted to it by Prince Raymond Roupen in the city of Antioch and its lordship, except for the city of Gabulum and castrum Vetule. text: Nov. 1-30. Acre. With the agreement of his brothers and in the presence of the curia and jurati of Acre, frater Gerinus sancte domus Hospitalis magister et pauperum Christi custos makes an exchange under seal with dominus Nicholaus Antelini. The Hospital of St John of Jerusalem gives Nicholaus the house it had bought from domina Ysabella de Petra [and her husband Guillelmus], in exchange for the house possessed by Nicholaus that adjoins the house of the Hospital. The house given to Nicholaus by the Hospital of St John adjoins to the east the public and royal way [via publica et regia] that runs through the New Gate, so that the wall of the house extends from a tower which is over the gate as far as the corner of the house of Margareta. To the west it adjoins a house of the Knights Templar [353] that belonged to dominus Guarnerius Theutonicus and other houses that owe rent to the crown. To the south is the oven called de Malvesin, some Templar houses and the said house of Margareta. To the north it stretches alongside the city ditch. A condition is that the Hospital of St John can construct whatever it wants on the tower over the New Gate, so long as any opening or window does not provide a view into the house of Nicholaus, who is assured of unimpeded passage through the Gate and along the public way. Witnesses: frater Andreas Polin magnus preceptor Acconensis; frater Willelmus prior ecclesie; frater Robertus de Vineis hospitalarius; frater Thomas Lorrne socius magistri; frater Rolandus socius ma-gistri; frater Guillelmus le Rat; frater Sayxius thesaurarius; frater Durandus parvus preceptor; frater Renaldus de Domibus; frater Johannes de Infirmaria; frater Luchas; and other brothers.
