On becoming a confrater of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and with the consent of his wife Aalis, the sister of Bohemond [IV], prince of Antioch and count of Tripoli, Guido dominus Biblii makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John, represented by frater Guarinus de Monte Acuto magister, of a rent of 1000 besants in revenues from the territory of Latakia or Saonia, or a casale and other property, which had been given to him on his marriage by Bohemond in December 1204. He incorporates the charter from Bohemond. Guido records that with the consent of Aalis/Haalis he has also given the Hospital of St John a casale called Betzaal, with all rights and lordship [dominium] and with the rustici living in it; the freedom to buy and sell in the city of Biblium and throughout his lordship, in the port, in the funda and elsewhere, without the payment of dues [jus plateaticus or other consuetudo]; and the freedom of Hospitaller vessels [vasselli] to come and go free of charges. Simon Bufferius major confirms that he received from Simon Bufferius junior 15 librae and 15 solidi Januenses, in payment of the eighth [of revenue], which Simon junior neglected to receive and collect on his behalf from the court of the kingdom of Jerusalem [curia regis Syriae], in place of the fief [feudum] he ought to have been given by the said court. For the 15 librae and 15 solidi, Symon major promises to give Simo, junior, either personally or through a representative, 3 Saracen besants [saracinales de Syria] for every libra within the next 2 months, from the profits for the commune of Genoa [pro dacitis et avariis de communi Januae], after the ship [navis] called St Lucas reaches the Levant [ultra mare].

text: Mar. 15. Leon, Dei gratia rex Armenie, makes a sealed grant to all who call themselves Genoese, represented by Ugo Ferrarius vicecomes Ianuensium. He gives them the right to a free court [libera curia] throughout his land, which will be managed according to the customs of Genoa and will judge all cases and offences involving Genoese, except major theft and homicide. He grants the Genoese the right to buy and sell, come and go by sea or land, without the payment of any dues [drictura et passagium], whether their ships are wrecked or arrive safely or not. Excluded from this grant are the land now held by dominus Ottho de Thabaria, [the land now held by dominus Adam de Gaston], the land called Corc held by dominus Vaharan marescalcus, and the crossing duty [passagium] payable to dominus Leo de Cabban over the river called Iahan. Leon also gives the Genoese a vicus, a church and land in the city of Tarsus, on which to build a bathhouse and oven and plant a garden.

He gives the Genoese freedom to come and go, buy and sell, without paying dues [de omnibus draituris et de omni passagio] in Antioch and in all the land he can recover or acquire, except in the port of Sanctus Symeon.
