He gives a casale called Hadedun and 2 guastinae. The boundaries are as follows: to the west dunae….. of dominus Hugo Feustellus; to the north the land stretches as far as the river [flumaria] by way of an old berchile and ends [at] S. Michaelis… casale…of Engelbertus; to the east the boundary ends, by way of a bechile, with the casale of the [canons of the] Templum Domini; to the south by way of the turon Bufali it ends….with the land of Seraphia belonging to the archbishop, as far as a large lake [lacus]. Hugo adds to his gift a curtile that had belonged to Urricus Tendilla and the salt pans [salina] of Gervasius, with as much land as is needed to produce salt fully and to build houses for colonists [incolae]. In return for Hadedun he receives from the Hospital 2000 besants in charity. With the agreement of her son Petrus, Gila makes an eleemosynary gift, masking the sale for 850 besants to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem of her house with a cistern in vico David [in Jerusalem], which is bordered on the east by the house of Stephanus Umbertus, on the west by the house of Robertus de Baugencio, and on the south by the public way, the vicus David. The Hospitallers receive Gila and Petrus into confraternity. They pay Gila 450 besants and in place of remaining 400 besants they give either the house of Petrus Tornator, which once belonged to Karsia Bocharia and is bordered by the house of Albertus patriarche pincerna, the public way which is the vicus Templi and the royal slaughterhouse [regis excorticatio], or half of the taberna the Hospitallers own in vico David. Should Gila and Petrus die without heirs, all their property will pass to the Order and they will be buried with the rites of a brother and sister of the Hospital. Should Petrus have heirs, he and his part of the inheritance will nevertheless belong to the Hospital. She makes a sealed eleemosynary gift to the Hospital and the poor of the casale of Betheras on the plain of Ascalon, which she had bought with all its rights. She imposes the condition that while she remains in the East the Order will give her 500 besants a year, payable on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If she should return to the West, the Order will provide her, in place of the 500 besants, with 12 and half marks in unadulterated silver of Troyes weight, payable each Pentecost in the Hospital’s chapter, meeting at Quierzy [Ceresers] or elsewhere. After her death the Order will bury her as a consoror and commemorate her obit every year. She delivers the charter of that sale to frater Isembardus Hospitalis magnus preceptor and frater Ricardus Hospitalis thesaurarius. She also leaves the Hospital an eleemosynary gift of 100 besants, to be paid on her death by the sale of a rent [censuales] of 50 besants a year payable to her by Thomas Pisanus for houses he holds of her in the vicus Catene at Acre, situated before the house of Johannes Daht. The houses border on the east the public way [via publica] and on the south the house of the daughter of Joannes Daht.
