text: Mar. 11. Lateran. Pope Anastasius IV confirms the papal privilege of protection for Guido abbas and his abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat. He records that the patriarchs of Jerusalem have given or confirmed the following: in the territory of Jerusalem two-thirds of the casale of Bethsau, the tithes of the gardens and mills of Siloam, and of other lands and vineyards, the tithes of 2 carucae, of which one was given by Guido de Miliaco, the other by Baleanus; in the territory of Nablus the tithes of the 2 casalia of Ascar and Bytiri; in the territory of Acre the tithes of a casale called Casera, of 4 carrucae of land and olives belonging to Casale Huberti de Paceo, half of the tithe of Balianus at Bitiri and of the land of Beroaldus, which is on the mountain, all the tithes of 3 casalia belonging to Balduinus Ramatensis called Gemail, Serra and Bethezim and the tithes of 2 casalia that belonged to Gumfredus de Turre called Cauea and Tarphin. The canons of the Holy Sepulchre gave an oven in Jerusalem, the tithe of Terra Plate Petrᶒ and the tithe of a casale called Darchiboam. The bishops gave the tithe of a casale called Betalla in the territory of Caesarea; half tithe of the produce of the labour of the monks and their servants [eis subditi] in the territory of Haifa, and at a casale called Galgala; the church of Ligio in Galilee with parochial rights and all the tithe, the tithes of a casale called Thanis and the church of Sanctus Georgius situated above Tiberias; a casale called Saphiria in the territory of Ramla and half its tithe; churches in Jaffa, Acre, Haifa, Tyre and next to Sidon; chapels [capellae] in the casale of Betalla and in Saphiria. Godfrey [of Bouillon] and the kings and barones of Jerusalem gave an oven, mills, houses, gardens and a bath within the walls of Jerusalem and lands and vines outside the city; the Pool of Siloam and mills, a fossa, gardens, 2 parts of the casale of Bethsau, and the casale called Dargerboam; in the territory of Nablus the casalia of Ascar, Bytiri and Saphe; in the territory of Jaffa 2 carrucatae terrᶒ and the land that belonged to Framericus; in the territory of Haifa a casale called Tymini and in the castle [castrum] of Haifa houses, an oven and land within and outside; in the territory of Hebron a casale called Iamaruara; next to Sidon a casale called Capharabra, together with a viridarium and lands; in Beirut houses, an oven, a mill and a viridarium and 2 carrucatae terrę outside; in Acre 2 houses and in the mountains a casale called Cassara; in the territory of Caesarea a casale called Betalla and within the city a house, and a casale called Meschium next to the road that runs to the river; across the River Jordan a casale called Bethsura; 4 carrucatae terrę in the [village] land of Ligio, together with houses in the casale; in the territory of Toron a casale called Corath; in the territory of Tiberias a casale called Casrielme; in terra Sueti casalia called Zebezeb, Sanctus Georgius de Chaman, Sanctus Iob and Soesme; in territorio Gor a casale called Ierraz; in Casale Huberti de Paci 4 carrucatae terrę and an olive plantation and a house in the casale and a garden outside; in the territory of Tyre the casalia of Bethfella and Sardanas and houses, a viridarium and a garden in the city; in the territory of Ascalon a casale called Machoz, the greater machomeria in the city and one of the better viridarii; across the River Jordan 2 casalia called Bethsura and La; the right to enter and leave and to import and export in every port without the payment of shipping dues and in the case of Acre also without the payment of any customs duty. The pope confirms the abbey’s tithe privileges, its rights with respect to episcopal procurations and its burial and admission rights.
