April 13. Bisane. Nicolaus Grillus, son of the late Iacobus Grillus, declares to have as pledge from Torellus Basterius et Sena Basterius, 97 balls of copper, that is about 2 cantars at the cantar of Montpellier and 54 balls of tin (stagnum) that is about 2 cantars of Montpellier. He promises to deliver copper and tin in Acre within two months after being asked, against the payment of 2,000 Saracen besants (saracinales), free of any tax; he also has to be reimbursed for the expenses incurred in bringing them from Montpellier to Acre. Note: The previous document of the same date in Balletto shows that the copper and tin in question were only a small part of a much more important cargo of the same commodities that the Florentine merchants Melioratus Basterius, Torellus Basterius and Sena Basterius in their own name and in the name of their associates Iacobus Basterius, Foresa Orlandi and Rusticus Basterius sold to Laurencius de Willelmus and Nicolaus Grillus, being 700 cantars of copper and 600 cantars of tin.
