May 2. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to the bishop of Beirut (Beritensis), relating that Patriarch J[acques Pantaléon] of Jerusalem, papal legate, humbly asked the pope to assist him with the expenses he went to in coming to the Apostolic See and staying there and also traveling, since he is obliged to his creditors for no small sum of money and he must go to further expense as befits the burden and honour of his rank. The pope therefore orders the master and brothers of the house of the knighthood of the Temple of Jerusalem to give and assign to the patriarch without any trouble up to 100 marks sterling from the sum of money that the late Patriarch G[erold] of Jerusalem deposited in their house at Acre. If they do not, the addressee is ordered to compel them to do so with ecclesiastical censure, after a warning, without appeal, various obstacles notwithstanding.
