Pope Alexander IV writes to the prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and the people's pastor (plebanus) of St Mark in Acre, relating that, at the request of the commune of Genoa, it is said that the pope sent a letter to the abbot and convent of St Sabbas in Acre ordering them to sell, grant perpetually for an annual rent, or give by trade to the commune their house in Acre (Acconensis) on the Street (vico) of the Chain next to the commune's house, granting the commune an executor for this. But because the pope has learned that such a sale or alienation would be at great cost for the monastery and cause much scandal, the pope orders the addressees, if it is so, to prohibit the executor from carrying out the papal mandate on this. If they (sic) proceed after the addressees' prohibition, the latter are to declare the process null and void. If the mandate has already been carried out, unless the parties renounce it before a deadline, the addressees are to revoke it on papal authority.
