The archbishop of Nicosia (archiepiscopus Nicosiensis) has appealed to the Holy See against a sentence of excommunication delivered by the archbishop of Mamistra (archiepiscopus Mamistranus), to whom one of the commissioners in the case, the archbishop of Caesaria (Cesariensis archiepiscopus), had transferred his obligations, on the grounds that the archbishop of Nicosia was reluctant to pay the tenth, levied on the incomes of all the churches in Cyprus for 3 years in favour of the patriarch of Antioch by Pope Innocent IV, to pay for the fortification of Castrum Cursarii. The archbishop of Nicosia had not made a formal statement on the matter, but because the patriarch of Jerusalem wished the pope to authorize the thesaurarius of Beirut (Beritensis) to publicize the excommunication, the archbishop of Nicosia (archiepiscopus Nicosiensis) asked for a ruling from the Holy See. The cardinal of Palestrina found in his favour [25 September 1259]. The pope therefore orders the patriarch of Jerusalem and papal legate and the archdeacon of Acre (archidiaconus Acconensis) to have it publicly announced that the excommunication of the archbishop of Nicosia (archiepiscopus Nicosiensis) is invalid.
