February 27. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to the master and convent of the hospital of St Mary of the Teutonics of Jerusalem, relating that the divine office that is observed in their order, as he has learned, out of concession of the Apostolic See, following the way of the Order of Friars Preacher, has been redacted with great diligence and vigilance in a form fitting and healthy for their religion according to God, by some of their cleric brothers who are devout, provident, and circumspect in spiritual things. Responding to their requests, the pope ratifies, confirms, and strengthens what they have done, strictly forbidding anyone from changing from now on what is presently observed in their order without the consent of the majority or wiser portion of the brothers, and declaring null and void anything done against this confirmation and prohibition.
