. April 1. Perugia. Pope Innocent IV writes to all faithful Christians living in Syria, relating that the noble man John of Ibelin count of Jaffa and lord of Ramla informed him via petition that he is making costly repairs to the port of Jaffa, which is useful and necessary for the aid of the Holy Land. Since they have a vested interest in spreading good deeds before their appearance in the divine tribunal (Romans, 14:10), the pope grants an indulgence of forty days to addressees who have confessed and help finance the repairs with their alms. Valid until the work is complete.
