. March 8. Jaffa. Bishop Arnoldus of Saint Georgius of Lydda (Liddensis) and Bishop-Elect G[aufridus] of Bethlehem (Bethlemitanus) write to Matheus, canon and preceptor of the Holy Sepulchre, informing him that they have received the mandate of Pope Innocent (see RRR 2846 from 11 January 1252). Since they have to reside in Jaffa with the Christian army, they are unable to have personal knowledge at present about the lawsuits and quarrels of said bishop [of Hebron] and his chapter, so they commit their role to the addressee, reserving the definitive sentence. Therefore they order the addressee to summon those who are to be summoned, to learn concerning the lawsuits, and to send the cases to them with sufficient information and the testimony of his letter and his actions.
