Pope Innocent IV writes to the master and the brothers of the knighthood of the Temple of Jerusalem, relating that he was told on their behalf that, although from old times there were many different seals in their order according to the diverse provinces, so that they do not change even if the preceptors in those provinces change, nevertheless some are trying to call this into doubt because the names of the preceptors of the provinces are not on the seals. Responding to their entreaties, the pope establishes that the traditional seals, as long as they are the true and old seals of the provinces, should from now on have firm and undoubted faith in all their and their provinces’ court cases, contracts and business, although they do not contain the names of the preceptors.
