text: Febr. 1. Jaffa. Baldwin, dei gratia Ierosolimorum et sancte civitatis Latinorum quartus rex, together with his mother Melisende, regina, confirms the agreement, negotiated in the presence of King Fulk in Jerusalem and Nablus and made between the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Robertus Sancti Egidii and his wife Odula, with the agreement of Rohardus vicecomes and his wife Gilla and of Patriarch William, who confirmed it. Robertus and his wife give the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Raimundus magister and its brothers the land of Emaus with its casalia, just as Robert had held it as a feudum from Rohardus and his wife. In return the brothers of the Hospital will pay Robertus and his heirs each year a census of 250 besants at Easter or within 40 days and another 250 besants at the Feast of All Saints. The land will revert to Robert if the Hospitallers fail to pay, but Robert can, if he wishes, make an eleemosynary grant to the brothers of up to 100 of these besants, or sell or commute them. Such an act will be confirmed by Rohardus as an eleemosynary gift. The remaining 400 besants will continue to be paid. text: Feb. 1. Raymond [of Poitiers], Dei gratia Antiochenus princeps, with the agreement of his wife Constancia, only daughter of Prince Bohemond II, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. He confirms all that Bohemond II, his wife’s father, and Tancred and other princes and barones of Antioch gave in alms to the Order. He refers especially to a boat [grippus] on the Lake [of Antioch] with that freedom [of use] that Adam de Guirchia castellanus and his other barones possessed, and to the house built in Antioch by Barutellus and his wife Sarracena, which was to pass to the Order after the death of Barutellus. Raymond confirms gifts that would be made of casalia and gastinae, and all to be given in alms, provided that the fiefs of knights [feodum militis] are not diminished so that the curia loses servicium. He lists in Antioch: a house with a garden next to it near the church of St John Chrysostom; a cavuta in the vicus of the Amalfitans; and a little house [domumcula] in the vicus of St Paul; outside Antioch, the casalia of Assis, Ursan and Melessin given by Bohemond [of Taranto]; the casale of Balilas in the territory of Harenc; the casale of Churar in the territory of Aronia; the casale of Cizenburg in the territory of Turbassellum; before Tilium the gastina of Aganir and the casalia of Gadir and Ubre; the casale of Sarata in the territory of Mamistra; the casale of Muserac in the territory of Cafardam. text: Jan. 1 – Aug. 31. Melisende, dei gratia Ierosolimorum regina, with the agreement of her son Baldwin rex Jerusalem, records that she has made a sealed eleemosynary grant, exchanging property with Raimundus Hospitalis pauperum Christi provisor. The Hospital of St John of Jerusalem has made over to her a bath house in the vicus of St Leonard in Acre. In return Melisende has given a logia before the doors of the basilica of St John the Baptist and houses that had belonged to Franco castellanus Acconensis, which Melisende had claimed and had reverted to the crown. Melisende also adds to the exchange land [terra] on the right side of the road that runs from Acre to Casale Album, belonging to the camerarius. The other three sides of the land are bounded by Casale Album, Disderum and the property of Suriani. Melisende, together with King Baldwin, confirms under seal a purchase made on behalf of the Hospital by the aforesaid Raimundus, tutor pauperum, of a house with a tower adjacent to it, which had belonged to Robertus vicecomes Acconensis. The purchase was legitimately made in the presence of Clarembaldus vicecomes Acconensis, with the agreement of Agnes, the wife of Robertus and the mother of Clarembaldus. Melisende confirms a purchase made by the aforesaid Frater Raimundus for the use of the poor and the hospital [xenodochium] of a casale called Assera from Johannes domnus de Bethsan, although Johannes has retained the rustici.
